New press code adopted by house of representatives

The Moroccan house of representatives (lower chamber) adopted on Monday a new press code replacing the old one, with modifications adopted by the chamber of advisors.
The law regulating the press and publishing trade in Morocco was adopted by 101 votes, two against and 37 abstentions.
The project was first adopted by the house of representatives last March 12 but was amended at the upper chamber.
The project, drafted by the government to replace the press code dating back to 1958 was criticized by the Moroccan press union (SNPM) and some other non-governmental and human rights organizations.
