Morocco will participate in international conference on middle east and Palestine
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 5/8/2002
Morocco will take part in the (proposed) international conference on the middle east and Palestinian issues, said on Monday Morocco's permanent delegate to the United Nations Organization, Mohamed Bennouna.
The diplomat told the Moroccan TV channel (TVM) King Mohammed VI, chairman of Al-Quds Committee, will participate in the conference that builds on the peace initiative presented last March by Saudi crown prince Abdallah and adopted by the Arab summit. He went on that Morocco has supported the Saudi peace initiative "which is evolving positively" and will take part in the conference as a country that contributed to promoting this initiative over the past weeks.
The diplomat also said the sovereign met on Monday Arab and Islamic delegates to the United Nations Organization over the conference. The king told the diplomats Morocco will mobilize so that the conference works toward a complete and definitive agreement over all aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The King went on that it is in this perspective that Morocco considers it necessary to conduct "substantial preparation work" at the level of foreign ministers in order to increase chances for convening a summit.
