Marrakesh hosts Arab regional office of world poetry assembly

The Arab regional office of the World Poetry Assembly will be officially dedicated this May 11 in Marrakesh, in accordance with a decision made last June 22-23 in the academy constituent assembly.

The ochre city, which will thus become the Arab capital of poetry, will host a series of cultural events, including a music concert and an international colloquy on how poetry evolves in modern times. The colloquy will be attended by renowned Arab and foreign poets.

The Palestinian poetry will be honored in a special ceremony that will feature reading of poems by Palestinian Mahmoud Darwish, Fedwa Touquan, Samih El Qacem, Ibrahim Touquan, Saleh Houari and Mohamed Zakaria.

On the program marking the official opening of the Arab regional office of the world poetry assembly, the late president of Senegal and prestigious poet, Leopold Sedar Senghor, will be honored and remembered with poem reading and testimonies on the late poet's relations with Morocco.
