Egyptian Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni said a pyramid was unearthed next to Gedef RA, son of Khufu, in Abu Rawash, Giza.
The pyramid dates back to the 4th dynasty (2670-2560 BC) is number 110 among Egyptian pyramids.
A joint Egyptian Swiss expedition has made its way to the pyramid.
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of antiquities (SCA), Zahi Hawas said the pyramid has a religious function, but the specific cause of building it has not been unraveled yet.
The head of the Swiss archaeological team said a passage was unearthed under the pyramid leading to a room in the eastern side and two rooms in the west.
The expedition is still in the process of uncovering the secrets of the new pyramids function.
