FIFA rejects Arab request
Regional-Israel, Sports, 5/6/2002
The chairman of the International Federation of the Football ( FIFA) on Friday in Zurich refused any measure to punish Israel, as several Arab states had asked for the suspension of Israel's participation at the international football competitions following the brutal Israeli attack against the West Bank by the end of March.
FIFA's chairman Sib Blater told journalists that FIFA is not a political establishment.
This Arab request was, however, rejected during the meeting of the executive committee of the European Federation for Football in April. The same request was rejected last Friday by FIFA's executive committee.
