Sanaa: no secret security or military agreements with Washington
Yemen-USA, Politics, 5/4/2002

The Yemeni foreign minister has stressed that his country did not sign any secret agreements with the US in the area of military and security cooperation. Abu Baker al-Qurabi said that what has been stated on the existence of secret agreements with the US are baseless and rather based on wrong press information, stressing that there are not any American military forces in the port of Aden.

Al-Qurabi indicated that Yemen and in the context of investing the services of the port of Aden is giving facilities to the American military vessels to be provided with fuels at the said port and that at any rate is not part of cooperation between the two countries in the military and security field and that is taking place in the context of a mere trade cooperation.

The Yemeni foreign minister considered in statements to the Qatari daily al-Raya that Yemen's contributions to the international campaign to fighting terrorism beside Washington is based on unwavering national and declared principles and that this cooperation is part of its national duty beside the American society.

He stressed that it is wrong to link between the issue of cooperation in the area of fighting terrorism with Washington and the principled stances of the Yemeni leadership and people concerning the Palestinian issue.
