Lahoud: US bias toward Israel has grave consequences
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 5/4/2002
The Lebanese President Emi Lahoud has asked the US to abide by international resolutions and to force the one who violate these resolutions to implement them, noting that in our Arab region this "one" is Israel.
In an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel issued on Friday, the Lebanese president stressed the commitment of all Arab states to international resolutions and their call to honor them.
The Lebanese president said that the US- Israeli alliance was there before but not to the current extent in ignoring the reality of the Palestinian people and the complete silence over the massacres committed against them.
He added that the US President George Bush has to realize that this policy will have grave consequences, the least of which is the escalation of hostility against the US and its ally Israel and will encourage resorts to violent means.
President Lahoud held Sharon responsible for the explosion which took place in the region, noting that Sharon is responsible for that because he did not honor the UN resolutions nor the signed agreements. Lahoud also noted that honoring UN resolutions will ensure the realization of a just and comprehensive peace for all the regions.
The Lebanese president renewed his support for the Lebanese national resistance in its operations against the Israeli occupation forces in the Shebaa Farms, noting that resistance is a national option adopted by the Lebanese and they cling to it and to their national army, adding that this option forced Israel to withdraw from the major parts of the Lebanese territories.
