Syria, Lebanon trade exchange up 17%

The total volume of trade exchange between Syria and Lebanon during 2001 reached USD 363 million after it was in 2000 some USD 309 million, representing an increase of 17%.

A report issued by the Syrian- Lebanese higher council on Friday about the movement of the trade exchange between the two states said that the Syrian exports to Lebanon during 2000 reached USD 282 million increasing during 2001 to USD 328, representing an increase of 16%.

The report said that the Lebanese exports to Syria reached in 2000 some USD 26 million, increased in 2001 to USD 35 million, representing an increase of 36%.

The report explained that Lebanon imports from Syria oil byproducts and plant and livestock production, processed foods, salt, matches, cement, and phosphate, while Syria imports from Lebanon plant products, timber, and electrical equipment and chemicals.
