King Abdullah and the Palestinian issue
Jordan-USA, Politics, 5/4/2002
The Jordanian King Abdullah II said on Friday in London he will try to convince the US President George Bush to encourage a final settlement for the Israeli- Palestinian conflict including the foundation of a Palestinian state.
The Jordanian King who was in a short stop in London before heading to the US added he will try in Washington to search for a mechanism that can be embarked upon to bring back the Israelis and the Palestinian authority to the negotiations table.
He added in a statement to the BBC that this mechanism will not be like before through restoring- back confidence measures, rather goes directly to the ultimate end which is the foundation of a Palestinian state.
On the other hand, the Jordanian King Abdullah warned that any American military intervention in Iraq will lead to the occurrence of a catastrophe in the Middle East. He also said that the conflict in the Middle East will never be settled unless the US strongly interferes to do so.
