Two illegal immigration webs dismantled
Morocco, Local, 5/3/2002
The Moroccan police dismantled Tetouan last week two webs specializing in smuggling people to Europe via the Gibraltar straight.
Some 187 candidates to illegal immigration were arrested in the operation, including smugglers, the police said.
The candidates paid between US$ 1,000 to 1,500 to the smugglers for a lift onboard fast rubber boats to southern Spain.
The arrested illegal immigrants included Moroccan nationals as well as Algerians and Iraqis, the police said.
