Strongest criticism from a Saudi Prince to the US; Sultan Bin Turkey for joint Arab delegation
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 5/3/2002
The Saudi prince Sultan Bin Turkey Bin Abdul Aziz on Thursday called on the Arab states to plan for a more balanced efforts to attain interests and set objectives with the aim to push the US to limit its bias in favor of Israel against the Arabs.
He considered Washington's reconsideration of its interests in the region "will force it to look on others with open eyes." Prince Sultan who is the nephew of the king and one of the closest to him said that the "Arab states have so far not succeed in penetrating the thick wall in the attempt to isolate America from talking frankly with the Arabs despite the attempts made by some to describe the results of their visits as a success at a time when the Palestinian camps are still painful battle fields with the price for it being the Palestinian blood and the honor of the Arabs."
In a statement to the Associated Press issued on Thursday, he said that the "matter is settled towards holding the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon innocent and not guilty concerning the blood of the Palestinian martyrs, and the Arabs who are waiting for solutions from the envoys have to read what Bush makes of statements and to judge through these statements that every one who comes to us, has come just to ridicule our stances. He ( Bush) wants to humiliate us by frightening us from the 'Greater State' and thereby if we do not accept Sharon's conditions, then the way will be to set other fires as the aim and the result."
Prince Sultan called on the Arab leaders to join peace negotiations with Israel by a joint delegation including Syria, Lebanon, besides the Palestinians "a matter which makes Israel loose the ability to 'take' each Arab state separately," considering this strategy as Israel's "sensitivity" in front of an Arab front that will make Israel "loose its balance, exactly like after the war of 1973," which he described as "the first wound in the depth of the Israeli psychology." He explained that when the Arabs then tried to maintain a military and economic balance embodied in an oil embargo which was a pressure force on the world as a whole, this made of Israel a "Dwarf before a battle which exceeded military superiority to economic damages."
He added "what we need is not to raise slogans and debate impossible aims, rather to use convincing means for the world public opinion on the legitimacy of our demands which are not in contradiction with the rights approved by the international laws." He indicated that Israel "could build its internal front (i.e. public concensus) on fear from 'the Arab enemy' which threatens its security and to wash the brains of the greater forces starting as from Britain and France to the USA in a way that Israel has become part of their 'holy laws' and in dealing with the Arabs."
Prince Sultan accused Washington that it has after the incidents of September 11 "formed for the Islamic world -- terrorist courts in the European and American courts" and helped Israel to place the Arabs "on the fire line with the West." Prince Sultan stressed that the US White House "is absent from knowing facts and that raising the slogan of fighting terrorism, without recognizing what Sharon is doing, has broken the moral barriers of the Arabs and Muslims towards these acts," describing the American policy in the region as "understood, but at any rate follows the Israeli steps."
Prince Sultan's criticism to the American policy reached its most to the extent he described the American President George Bush as "the official spokesman for Tel Aviv" and he had no more in confrontation of what he claims -- the Arab terrorism, but to send to every and each Arab capital a "Higher Commissioner" linked to the White House, so as to have 'the say' on the honor and dignity of a nation ( the Arab) as a whole. This leads us to the fact that "Greater Israel is in the US, in particular."
He added that "it seems that the US is now drastically in need to hear sincere wise advice from people who know where the current stances of the US administration will lead the American interests in the Middle East region. The US needs this advice after it continues its persistence to alienate the Palestinian leadership -- under the pretext of not halting the martyrdom operations. A matter which is demanded by Israel."
Prince Sultan commends the stances of the Arab people especially those who resorted to economic boycott. He said: by that, those people "push the battle to the principle of life or death, while the Arab leaderships took the position of the audience." He stressed that "the one who stands behind the myth that Israel is stronger than all the Arabs and Muslims militarily, he will miss the fact that power did not perpetuate the hegemony of Germany and Japan nor kept Britain the master of the world, because before the floods of people a turn down happened in these forces' hegemony and Greater Empires converted into minor states."
Prince Sultan called for the continuity of the Palestinian Intifada saying that making the Intifada longer "made great gaps in the Israeli mind who lived just short wars and enjoyed its victories."
