Meetings between Arab ambassadors council and European officials in Brussels
Regional-European Union, Politics, 5/2/2002
The Arab ambassadors council in Brussels has stressed to the European officials during a series of intensive meetings held between the two sides in April the need of the Israeli withdrawal from all the occupied Palestinian territories and other Arab occupied lands in the Golan and the Lebanese Shebaa farms.
In a statement to SANA's correspondent in Brussels, a spokesman for the Arab League office in Brussels explained that the diplomatic Arab side stressed to the European side the rejection of both Syria and Lebanon to any threats by the side of Israel, stressing simultaneously the keenness of the region towards peace.
The Arab diplomats acquainted the European officials with "the massacres committed by the Israeli forces in the Palestinian Jenin camp," stressing "the need that the UN facts finding commission should head for the camp."
However, the delegation of the Arab ambassadors council in Brussels met with the foreign ministers of both Belgium and the Luxembourg, heads of the European and Luxembourg Parliament, the chairman of the Belgian Senate and the European commission for foreign affairs.
During these meetings, the European officials expressed their rejection to what is going on in the Palestinian territories of acts of killing and destruction at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces, stressing the need of international efforts to solve the standing situation through joint efforts.
The European side also regretted what happened in the Jenin camp and rejection of the Israeli policies. It, on the other hand, expressed support for the Arab peace initiative which was approved by the Arab Beirut Summit in March this year.
