Algeria investigates prison fire

It was officially announced in Algierson Wednesday that the attorney general department opened a judicial investigation to find out the reasons behind the fire which erupted on Tuesday in the rehabilitation establishment in Bab al-Jadid (Surkaji prison) in the capital Algiers.
Algerian official sources said the fire which erupted in one of the prison's halls resulted in the death of 14 persons and wounding of other 11, noting that the reason behind it was a suicide attempt made by one of the prisoners (19 year old).
Surkaji prison was built in the last century together with other 100 prisons and among other 145 prisons all over Algeria.
