Demands increased to revitalize Islamic boycott of Israel
Regional-Israel, Economics, 5/1/2002
The Damascus based office of boycotting Israel on Tuesday concluded three days of meetings and urged the Islamic countries to boycott Israeli products.
In a statement issued in Damascus on Wednesday, the Israeli boycott office called for the "need of revitalizing the Islamic boycott of Israel." The statement said that "this is a peaceful instrument, legitimate and noble." The statement also said that "means of revitalizing people's economic boycott of the Israeli products in the world countries and making of it an international request serves the peace process and ward off evils from humanity and also contributes to strengthening world peace and security."
The office "urges means of revitalizing the economic boycott against Israel in the Arab and Islamic states." The participants in the meetings of the Israel Boycott Office also also discussed conditions of companies listed on their meeting agenda and especially branch companies which are proposed to be banned and others to be banned because of violating boycott rules and procedures. The office also studied the status of companies which boycotted Israel and extended a greeting to the European Parliament which asked the European Union to suspend the partnership agreement with Israel."
Worthy to mention that the three Arab states Egypt, Jordan and Mauritania who have diplomatic relations with Israel did not take part in these meetings. The meetings included liaison officers of the regional offices for boycotting Israel, who represent the other 19 Arab states, members in the Arab League.
During its recent meeting in October, 2001 in Damascus, the office blacklisted 15 international companies but without publishing their names. The Boycott Office of Israel was established in 1951 by the Arab League. Its mission stated to blacklist twice a year names of the Israeli companies ( direct boycott) or companies from other countries which have trade exchange with Israel ( indirect boycott.)
