Al- Qaddafi to compensate for Lockerbie victims
Libya-USA, Politics, 5/1/2002
A report has stated that the Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi is ready to give a large official offer within one month to compensate families of the victims of the Pan American plane which was blown off over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.
In its recent issues, the US "Time" magazine said it got a message addressed to relatives of the victims of the plane which crashed in 1988 from a lawyer negotiating with the Libyan officials in Paris stating that al-Qaddafi is intending to sign an agreement to this effect.
The magazine said that the message which was dated April 23 was written by Lawyer James Krindler who was negotiating in secret with Libyan officials. The magazine added that the lawyer did not set the sum offered by al-Qaddafi as a compensation but the magazine attributed several estimates the possibility that this sum will reach USD 3.5 billion.
