Powell, Fischer hold common views to solve ME problems

The US secretary of state Colin Powell and his German counterpart Yushka Fischer have expressed a united position concerning solving the Middle East problems.
Fischer expressed to journalists after his meeting with Powell his appreciation for the role played by the US and the American diplomacy to finding out an outlet for the crisis in the Middle East.
Fischer indicated that Powell will host talks with the four- member group of the establishments and countries taking part in the mediation efforts in the Middle East next Thursday, considering that the previous rounds of these efforts were successful.
For his part, Powell expressed a cautious optimism concerning the situation in the church of Nativity in Bethlehem. He said that there are certain difficult talks that are being made "But I do think the issue will be solved in the near future." He added that an official from the US State Department will be sent to the Middle East in order to take part in the talks between a British team and Palestinian and Israeli officials on the implementation of the plan set by the US President George Bush so as Israel lifts its siege imposed on Arafat.
