Regional summit to achieve reconciliation in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 4/30/2002

The Sudanese government and the opposition Democratic National Coalition are taking part in the meeting called upon by the Kenyan leadership in Nairobi next Thursday in order to coordinate between the Libyan- Egyptian initiative on reconciliation and IGAD's peace efforts. The meeting will be attended by Egypt, the US and the European Troika.

The advisor of the Sudanese president for peace affairs Ghazi Salah Eddine will preside over the delegation of the Sudanese government to the meeting.

Nairobi's meeting is expected to be followed by a regional summit to be attended by Presidents of Kenya, Egypt and Sudan and the leaders of the rebels in southern Sudan John Garang in order to achieve national reconciliation in Sudan.

Meantime, press reports said that the US presidential envoy to Sudan John Danforth stressed in his report that partitioning of Sudan is an unrealistic solution and will not lead to permanent peace in Sudan.
