Louvre director to visit Egypt to probe museum coordination
Egypt-France, Culture, 4/27/2002
The director of the Louvre will arrive in Cairo on Sunday on a five-day visit to Egypt at the invitation of Minister of Tourism Mamdouh El Beltagui.
He will visit the Alexandria library and examine prospects of cooperation between the Louvre and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities officials in Egypt.
While visiting Egypt, the Louvre has opened, since Monday, the pharaoh's artist's exhibition to shed light on the ancient Egyptians' daily life.
The exhibition, to last until July 22, showcases nearly 370 pieces of antiquities from 20 European museums.
The exhibition spotlights the day-to-day life of the artists who undertook the building of the tombs of Pharaonic kings and queens in the kings and queens valleys on the West Bank of the River Nile before the capital thebes.
It also includes statues showing how the ancient Egyptian women were interested in their beautification and agility as well as some papyruses showing the pharaohs' progress in art and mathematics, which helped upgrade the level of Agriculture during that period.
The Louvre director told Midlle East News Agency that he, like most of the French, is Egypt maniac, adding that hundreds of thousands of the French nationals are keen on going on an annual pilgrimage-like trip to Egypt to get to know better about Egypt's civilization and history.
