Mubarak receives message from Romanian President
Egypt-Romania, Politics, 4/27/2002

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak received today a message from Romanian President Ion Iliescu during his meeting with Romanian Foreign minister Dan Mircea Geoana.

In statements Geoana said that the message implied the ideas and proposals forwarded by the Romanian President to Mubarak to get out of the current stalemate in the peace process in the Mideast out of Romania's strong desire to restore stability and calm to the region.

Also, he added, the message included means of furthering bilateral relations and following up the agreements inked by Mubarak and the Romanian President during their visits to Bucharest and Egypt in a row.

Mircea noted that Iliescu would visit Egypt by fall at an invitation by Mubarak to continue activating the political debate between the two countries and to follow up what have been agreed on during Mubarak's recent last visit to Bucharest.

Mircea expressed his country's appreciation of the wise policy adopted by President Mubarak in dealing with the developments of the situation in the Middle East which has been more complicated than before.

He asserted that Egypt has always played a pivotal, vital role in banning the explosion of the situation, restoring peace and security to the region, and pushing and furthering the peace process.

Mircea stressed his country's clear stance on the necessity of Israel's immediate withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories, and on lifting the siege imposed on Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

He pointed out that he had asked to meet Arafat during his recent visit to Israel and he has been waiting for Israel's response.

Mircea has said that he will meet today with Prime Minister Atef Ebeid and Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher to discuss furthering strong links between Romania and Egypt at the political and popular levels in all fields.

He added that there have been many projects under implementation in agricultural technology and automobile industry.
