Morocco in world oil summit
Morocco, Economics, 4/26/2002

Morocco attended Thursday in Paris the third World Oil Summit, which debated the impact of technical progress on oil and gas production and processing.

Energy and oil ministers from several countries as well as representatives of large oil companies debated the prospects of oil supply and demand, the development of renewable energies and the consequences of ongoing conflicts in the world on oil markets.

The meeting was important as it helped assess the situation of a key sector and to debate the future prospects of the oil market, said Ms. Amina Benkhadra, head of the Moroccan oil research office (ONAREP), who represented Morocco in the Paris encounter.

It was important for Morocco to attend such a meeting, as the country relies on imports to meet oil and gas needs, which weigh heavily on the state budget, she told MAP news agency.
