Yemen: tough security measures to protect American, western interests
Yemen-USA, Local, 4/26/2002
The Yemeni authorities have taken strong security measures to ensure the protection of the American embassy in Sanaa and other western embassies and headquarters of oil companies. These measures include introducing guards equipped by machine guns around embassies and western interests.
In a statement, the Yemeni foreign ministry said that these measures are taken following the announcement by the US embassy that it had received threats of exposing to a terrorist act.
The statement stressed that the Yemeni security authorities are dealing very seriously with these threats and that necessary measures were taken to this effect, adding it is not the first time in which the US embassy informs the Yemeni authorities of receiving threats.
