King Mohammed receives delegates of US Jewish organizations
Morocco-USA, Politics, 4/24/2002
Morocco's King Mohammed VI received Tuesday in Washington delegates of US Jewish organizations.
The audience was attended by minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, the advisors to the king, Andre Azoulay and Mohamed Kabbaj, Director of the Royal Office, Mohamed Rochdi Chraibi, and minister of economy, finance, privatization and tourism, Fathallah Oualalou.
Chairman of the honorary committee of the World union of Moroccan Judaism, Serge Berdugo, who is part of the delegation accompanying King Mohammed VI, told reporters the audience falls in the frame of "a long tradition, marked by the mutual respect that Morocco's sovereigns have maintained with Jews throughout history."
This tradition of tolerance is an asset that enables Morocco to play a key role in fostering rapprochement between peoples, particularly in this period of crisis in the Middle East, said Berdugo, who underlined Morocco's tireless efforts to establish a lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis.
Secretary General of the World Rally of Moroccan Jews, Robert Assaraf, is also part of the delegation accompanying the sovereign.
