Khaddam discusses with Hawatemah the political objectives of Sharon's aggression
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 4/24/2002

The Democratic Front For the Liberation of Palestine said that its secretary general Nayef Hawatemah held on Tuesday a meeting with the Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam during which they discussed the political objectives of the aggression launched by Sharon's government against the Palestinian people.

The statement quoted Khaddam as saying that Sharon's set conditions are "to liquidate the Intifada and resistance and impose his political plan to return back to long term partial solution." Khaddam also indicated that the regional conference called upon by the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon is in full contradiction with the Arab peace initiative and the international resolutions. Khaddam also stressed Syria's support for the Palestinian.

The statement quoted Hawatemah as saying that "Sharon's aggression has torn any political or legal immunity for the Palestinian cities, villages and camps." Hawatemah also called for "opening the Arab borders for the Palestinian Fedayeen ( fighters), according to a joint Arab strategy and a new equilibrium with Washington based on greater economic and trade interests standing for halting the American bias to the Sharon's aggressions and his political objectives."
