Al- Assad: peace requires investigations of Israeli crimes, and implementian of UN resolutions
Syria-Regional, Politics, 4/24/2002
Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday at the Damascus People's palace received the UN Secretary General representative to the Middle East Terry Rod Larsen and members of the accompanying delegation.
The meeting was attended by the foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and UNDP resident representative Toufiq Bin Amara.
Larsen talked about his mission in the region and his shock about what he had seen of acts of killing and destruction in the occupied Palestinian territories especially in Jenin.
Al-Assad stressed that the world has started to see "the reality of Israel" and that the massacres it had conducted are not new, rather a ring in the chain of massacres carried out by Israel earlier in Palestine, Sabra and Shatilla and the Egyptian prisoners in killed in Sinai and many other massacres.
Al-Assad added that there can be no talk about re-launching the peace process before investigating the massacres committed in Jenin, Nablus and other Palestinian cities and it is also no more enough to talk only about the implementation of UN resolutions, rather to find out the mechanism to implement these UN resolutions.
