Six main sectors offered for investment in Egypt

The Egyptian government is currently offering six main sectors for investment for Egyptian, Arab and foreign investors, providing all necessary facilities for the new ventures, said Mohammed Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).

Ghamrawi defines the new sectors as follows:

-Transport including the setting up of highways, airports, harbours and underground metros, under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) system.

-Electricity and energy ventures.

-Communications, IT, e-commerce, computers and software.

-Gas and oil industry, including liquefying natural gas, oil refining, and petrochemicals.

-Housing, construction and new urban communities, which include establishing water pipes, sanitary drainage projects, water stations and the treatment of water for agricultural purposes.

-Pharmaceuticals.

"The government gives priority for investment in these domains for their importance in realizing high revenues and boosting the national economy, luring world technology, offering jobs and increasing exports," Ghamrawi said.

"These activities will be offered for Egyptian and foreign investors through conferences and joint committees with the world countries held inside or outside Egypt. This, besides marketing efforts in cooperation with the GAFI offices in all world capitals," he added.

These sectors will also be hooked up to the GAFI website on the Internet, besides the Egyptian trade representation bureaux abroad.
