Solana: The Palestinians, Israelis will agree on sending UN observers to the region, shortly
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 4/20/2002

The official in charge of the foreign policy and security in the European Union Javier Solana on Friday expressed his conviction that the Palestinian and Israeli sides will reach an agreement concerning sending UN observers to the region, shortly.

In a press conference he held in Athens on Friday, Solana said "If I am not wrong, Israel will also agree on deploying several observers in different areas in the occupied lands in the coming days or weeks."

Solana added that sending an international peace keeping force or other forces need a decision to be ratified by the UN security council, adding that the idea of sending such a force is under discussion, but so far an agreement was not achieved to this effect.

Worthy mentioning that Solana arrived in Athens in order to attend two conferences on trade and defense issues.
