The US and the Iraqi oil
Iraq-USA, Economics, 4/20/2002
The US Senate on Thursday evening adopted a decision which bans the American oil companies from buying the Iraqi oil.
News reports said that this proposal came in an amendment to the draft law on energy discussed by the Senate and approved by 88 votes and opposed by 10.
The proposal bans direct and non- direct importation of oil and oil byproducts coming from Iraq, considering that this import is in contradiction with the national security and the US foreign interests.
This vote came after the Senate rejected the idea of drilling for oil and gas fields in natural protectorate in Alaska, an idea supported by the US President George Bush.
