Syria, Lebanon still wait an answer on Israel's participation in the Euro-Med. Conference
Lebanon-European Union, Politics, 4/19/2002
The Lebanese foreign minister Mahmoud Hammoud has stressed that Lebanon is still waiting for an official answer by the European Union on the Syrian and Lebanese request on suspending Israel's participation in the Euro- Mediterranean conference which will be held in Valencia, Spain on April 22nd.
In a statement in Beirut on Thursday, Hammoud stressed Lebanon's commitment to the formula of the Madrid Middle East peace conference. He indicated that any new initiative amid the current circumstances is just a waste of time especially as the Arab peace initiative adopted by the Beirut's recent Arab summit is based on the international legitimacy and the Arab rights and demands that Israel should comply to.
He stressed that there will be no conference which keeps apart any of the Arab sides involved in the conflict with Israel.
