Syria-International, Politics, 4/19/2002

The Syrian deputy premier and foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Thursday received a telephone call from the secretary of the Libyan people's committee for African unity in Libya Ali Abdul Salaam al-Tureiky during which views were exchanged "on the developments of conditions in the region, under the continued Israeli aggression in the occupied Palestinian territories."

On Thursday afternoon, al-Shara received the secretary general of the Romanian foreign ministry and members of the accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by the deputy foreign minister Mrs. Siba Nasser and the Romanian ambassador in Damascus.

Discussions dealt with "latest conditions in the Palestinian territories and the crimes of killing and destruction against the Palestinians," Syria said. Talks also dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing them.

Al- Shara received on Thursday the Cyprus ambassador in Damascus on the occasion of ending his term of office in Syria. al-Shara praised the efforts exerted by the ambassador in strengthening relations between the two countries. For his part, the Cypriot ambassador expressed thanks he had received from the Syrian officials during his stay in Syria.
