Number of imported new cars rise by 22.5% in 2001

The number of new cars imported and cleared through Moroccan customs increased by 22.5%, the Administration of Customs and Direct Taxes (ADII) said.

The number of these cars reached 21,228 unit in 2001, in comparison with 17,326 the previous year.

The number of second-hand cars decreased by 43% during the same period. It went down from 25,584 in 2000 to 14,530 the following year.

The main crossing points for second-hand cars are located in the Moroccan northern areas of Tangier (43.5%), Bab Sebta (32.3%) and Nador (23.6%).

The customs desk of Casablanca cleared 22.9% of the second-hand cars, followed by the desk of Rabat (16.4%), Nador (12.1%), Tangier (9.9%) and Oujda (9.4%), says the ADII, adding that almost all the new cars were imported and cleared at the Casablanca port desk.
