Moroccan speaker calls inter-parliamentary union to intervene for liberation of Palestinian leader
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/17/2002
Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Abdelouahed Radi, called the inter-parliamentary union to urgently intervene for the liberation of Marwane Barghouti, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, arrested on Monday by the Israeli occupation forces.
A statement of the House says Radi has sent the IPU secretary general asking the parliamentarians' human rights commission be informed of this arrest so that the needed measures be taken to guarantee the protection of Barghouti's physical integrity.
Radi warned against dangers that could threaten the life of the Palestinian leader.
In Cairo, secretary general of the Arab Parliamentary Union (APU), Moroccan Noureddine Bachkouch, said intensive contacts are presently held with the Union chairmanship (Sudan), the UNO, and parliaments throughout the world to set up an international fact-finding parliamentary commission on human rights violations against Palestinians.
