Iraq - Iran for increased cooperation
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 4/17/2002
Iraqi Charge d'affaires to Tehran Abdulsattar al-Rawi in a meeting with the Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohsen Mirdamadi Wednesday discussed the developments in the occupied territories, IRNA reported today.
IRNA said "Al-Rawi pointed to the call of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to launch an oil embargo on the allies of the racist Zionist regime, and said Baghdad had welcomed the call to suspend its oil exports to Tel Aviv's allies."
"The points that create unity between Tehran and Baghdad outnumber minor differences. The two countries have taken significant steps to promote mutual ties," he said, IRNA reported adding Al-Rawi "called on Iran and Iraq to further boost parliamentary relations, and underscored the contribution of parliaments to promoting bilateral ties. He pointed to the current regional conditions and the US threats against Iran and Iraq, and stressed that Tehran and Baghdad's independent positions regarding regional developments, particularly opposing the Zionist regime, had been the reason for US animosity towards them."
