Rabat, Kuala Lumpur want to hoist cooperation
Morocco-Malaysia, Politics, 4/16/2002
Morocco and Malaysia said Tuesday they were satisfied over the level of their political ties and voiced will to consolidate their economic and commercial cooperation.
The meetings of the two countries' delegations were fruitful and constructive and opened new horizons for bilateral cooperation and partnership, Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi told the press at the end of a meeting he co-chaired with visiting Malaysian peer, Mohamed Mahatir.
Mahatir arrived this Tuesday in Morocco for a three-day official to Morocco in a bid to give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
Trade between Morocco and Malaysia does not exceed US$25 million with a trade balance in favor of Malaysia.
Youssoufi said the two sides are satisfied over the positive evolution in bilateral cooperation, especially in the realms of telecommunications and oil drilling.
The two countries signed on Tuesday two oil drilling contracts and an accord on investments guarantee.
Mohamed Mahatir agreed that his meetings with Moroccan officials were fruitful and voiced his country's keenness on developing cooperation with Morocco, "a key country in the Islamic world."
Partnership between Morocco and Malaysia will undoubtedly help promote inter-Islamic cooperation, he said, calling for the intensification of visits between the two countries officials and economic operators.
