Morocco, Education, 4/16/2002
Morocco's King Mohammed VI, who was accompanied by his brother Prince Moulay Rachid, proceeded this Tuesday in the royal palace of Agadir to the installation of the steering committee of the Mohammed VI foundation for social welfare promotion of education and training staff and appointed nine university presidents.
In accordance with the law N.73.00, the steering committee comprises in addition to the president 15 members representing competent government sectors, trade unions and personalities representing financial, economic and social sectors.
The sovereign also appointed 9 university presidents chosen in accordance with the new selection procedure stipulated by the national education-training charter and provisions of the regulating enforcement texts.
On this occasion, the sovereign delivered a speech wherein he renewed commitment to enforce the National Charter on Education and Training. Paying tribute to the education and training employees who are discharging "one of the noblest but also one of the most tiresome missions," the sovereign said the creation of a Foundation, entrusted with a social, solidarity and motivational mission, stems from his concern to take care of the education staff welfare affairs.
The king went on that the endeavor to ensure an optimum enforcement of the national education and training charter "requires an unfailing spirit of commitment," underscoring that "Education is the pillar of development and solidarity and that it represents the appropriate way to consolidate a strong citizenship and an acting democracy."
However, went on the sovereign, "as much as we understand their (education and training staff) legitimate concerns to upgrade their professional statute, We consider in parallel constraints of financial balances imposed by any efficient development policy."
