Moussa discusses providing protection for Palestinians

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa starts on Monday a our-day visit to Switzerland and Britain during which he is scheduled to hold talks with the UN Human Rights Commissioner and the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as well as with British Foreign Minister Jack Straw.
In statements on Sunday, AL spokesman Hisham Youssef said the Israeli violation of Palestinian human rights will be the focus of discussion during his visit.
In its capacity as the chairman of the Arab Summit, Lebanon informed the Arab League General Assembly that an Arab Follow-up committee will be formed of 11 Arab countries, namely Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Morocco, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen and Oman.
Concerning the Arab peace initiative, the spokesman said Moussa has sent relevant documents to the Foreign Minister of UN Security Council permanent members.
He sent the documents also to Spain, Canada and to a number of important countries in the OIC and the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
Moussa sent messages to the Foreign Ministers urging their countries to deposit their shares in a fund dedicated for Somalia where an estimated $ 56 million were pledged.
As for the resolution on Iran's occupation of the 3 UAE islands, Moussa sent the text of the resolution to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the UN Security Council, the OIC and the OAU.
Moussa also briefed Annan on Iraq-Kuwait state of affairs.
Moussa urged the Arab countries to accelerate their contribution for the Sudanese fund.
On the Lebanese and the Palestinian arenas, Moussa sent message to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the head of ICRC and the UN Human Rights High Commissioner, briefing them on the continuous Israeli atrocities and crimes against Palestinians and the religious sanctities.
In his message he also called for the release of Lebanese detainees in Israeli prisons and the necessity to implement the 4th Geneva Convention on the treatment of Syrian citizens in Israeli occupied Golan.
Moussa lauded the stance of Pope John Paul II of the Vatican towards Israeli aggression and his rejection of the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian citizens and sanctities.
