Amnesty international, human right groups slam Israeli practices
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 4/15/2002
Amnesty International (AI) and Human Rights Watch condemned Israel's brutal practices in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a joint statement issued Saturday, they pressed for terminating attacks on civilians and called on the international community to intervene and dispatch international monitors to the region as soon as possible to verify ongoing human right breaches.
The statement expressed deep concern over the Israeli measures against persons protected under the international law including medical teams.
It criticized Israel's imposition of curfews for long Periods over Palestinian towns, restrictions on the movement of residents and collective punishment of civilians.
Israeli forces have announced several Palestinian towns and cities "no-entry" areas for journalists and human right: activists, the statement said.
It recalled the Israeli attacks on medical teams and on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) ambulances which attempted to move the bodies of injured Palestinians.
It's time for the international community to move and send monitors who would press on Israel to stop its atrocities, the statement said.
It expressed deep concern over the death of tens of Palestinians at the hands of Israeli soldiers who thrust into several towns and cities.
If a state's army committed what Israel's have done, it should immediately be put on trial; the statement quoted an independent military adviser as saying.
