Positive results for strategy on boosting Egyptian exports

There is tangible positive outcome for the Egyptian comprehensive strategy on enhancing exports, especially that last year witnessed an increase of exports by $ 1.9 billion, according to Minister of Foreign Trade Youssef Boutros Ghali.
A review is under way to assess the results of the implementation of the first year of the strategy in preparation for initiating the next phase, Ghali recently said.
The program on supporting exporters, worth L.E. 15 million, was allocated to a number of export-oriented commodities and sectors, the Minister added.
The government's continued efforts to lay down the foundation of the export-oriented culture, ensure th maintenance of the Egyptian goods in the foreign markets and assist exporters to have access to new markets, Ghali further said.
Regarding the activities of the Trade Representation Offices, Ghali said that such offices have already realize effective results in enhancing exports.
For example, the Stockholm office was able to increase exports to about 96 percent, while the office in Pretoria augmented Egyptian exports by 39 per cent and the Alma Ata office was able to push exports forward by 35 per cent, Ghali added.
Moreover, the San Francisco office has succeeded in exporting some Egyptian goods including furniture, carpets and textiles, he said.
Egypt's office in Rome has successfully exerted efforts to export some vegetables, while the Athens office managed to export coke, frozen potatoes and textiles.
On the promotion of the Egyptian goods, Ghali said that the Trade Representation Offices are now exerting efforts to promote several non-traditional commodities, like building materials and medicinal herbs.
On the other hand, Ghali reiterated the importance of the free trade accords clinched by Egypt with the different international economic groupings which may contribute to opening new world markets for the Egyptian goods.
The Egyptian goods that are highly reputed in world markets include rice, raw materials, electric appliances, cotton yarns, carpets, chemical materials, fruit, vegetables, iron and steel.
