Arabic music institute hosts AbdulWahab's museum
Egypt, Culture, 4/15/2002
Work is at full swing at the premises of the Arabic music institute in downtown Cairo to be ready for the inauguration of late composer and singer Mohamed Abdul Wahab's museum.
According to Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni, the institute that hosts the museum is an 80-year old building of a unique architectural style.
The building, he said, was restored at total costs of LE 7 million.
Hosni said the institute was preserving genuine oriental music and would remain as such, especially with the introduction of the museum.
The institute was developed to embrace a theatre where only Arabic musical shows will be presented, a museum of Mohamed Abdul Wahab and a museum for oriental musical instruments.
In addition, it includes a library with a rare collection of manuscripts and books related to music and a collection of discs.
The artistic lute house is another section at the institute that is basically meant for fostering young talented lute players.
