Morocco sends ministerial delegation to Dakar's African development conference
Morocco, Economics, 4/15/2002

A Moroccan ministerial delegation, comprising trade, industry, energy and mining minister Mustapha Mansouri and transports and merchant navy minister, Abdesslam Znined, arrived on Sunday in Dakar to take part in the international conference on the financing of the NEPAD (New Partnership for African Development) taking place this April 15-16.

Morocco wishes that the conference "will take the necessary measures to start a partnership process" between the public and private sectors, attract foreign capital and more assistance to development, and mark Africa's awareness as to the need to address economic and good governance reforms in order to prepare the ground for the flow of investments, said Mansouri.

He went on that the Dakar conference will give to several heads of state and international private operators the opportunity to debate development problems and how to settle them with the help of fund donors, and more particularly the g-8 group to meet in Canada next June.

In addition to the official delegation, Morocco has also sent a business delegation representing all sectors of economic activity.

The conference opened this Monday in the presence of over 100 entrepreneurs, delegates of some 40 countries, including heads of state and government.

NEPAD, is a plan adopted last year by African heads of state giving a fundamental role in African development to the private sector.
