Presidential elections in Comoros started in Moroni, the capital of the greater Comoros island, the greatest island in the federation of Comoros island after President Othman Ghazali had submitted his resignation.

News reports said that the competition for the post includes the resigned President al-Ghazali and col. Muhammad Ma Rabdi, one of the rich people on the island and prince Saeed Ali Kamal who descends from Sultans dynasty.

The elections resulted in a large jam in the traffic in the capital as the rental and private cars were prevented from running in the city except by special permission.

No information was given yet on the process of the elections in the islands of Mohibi and Anjoine which belong the federation of the Comoros island.

Worthy mentioning that Comoros which is composed of three islands are located in the Indian ocean, 300 Km from Mozambique. Since its independence from France in 1975, these islands witnessed 20 military coupes.
