Morocco, Culture, 4/13/2002
The government council, convened Thursday in Rabat under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, adopted a draft related to the creation of the Mohammed VI Arabic Language Academy.
The institution will tackle three problems related to the Arabic language in Morocco, namely regarding the teaching of Arabic, the use of Arabic in the education system, and the position of Arabic in Moroccan institutions and daily life.
Mohammed VI Arab Language Academy, to enjoy financial and administrative autonomy will be a reference and authority in Arabic language, and will work for the enactment of the pedagogic and scientific project related to the unification of Arab terminology, as provided for by the national charter on education.
The academy will also contribute to the Arabization of school syllabi, compile modern general and specialized dictionaries and translate foreign reference works.
