Morocco calls UN human rights high commissioner to protect Palestinian children
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/12/2002
Morocco's Princess Lalla Meriem, Chairwoman of the Moroccan Observatory of Child's Rights, has called the UN Human Rights High Commissioner, Mary Robinson, to take urgent moves to protect Palestinian Children and bring to a halt the crimes committed by the Israeli army against these children.
"Human consciousness cannot remain indifferent or hesitate to put an end to the blatant and systematic violations inflicted on the Palestinian children and their families on the part of the Israeli army," wrote Princess Lalla Meriem in a message to the High Commissioner.
Princess Lalla Meriem recalled the calls she launched last year during the preparatory meetings to the World Child Summit, urging the international community to intervene in favor of Palestinian children, as well as the warnings she voiced last month from the UNESCO tribune, in her capacity as UNESCO goodwill ambassador and spokeswoman for Children's causes in the world, about the deteriorating situation and the dangers threatening the existence, right to life and security of the children of Al-Quds and of the whole of Palestine.
She appealed to Ms Robinson to intervene to protect Palestinian children whose life is at the grips of the progression of armored tanks and the terror of explosions, and whose aspirations are limited to the sole right to exist.
Princess lalla Meriem, who insisted that the UN high commissioner for human rights will remain whatever the complexity and cruelty of situations the resort for peace seekers and human rights upholders, urged Ms Robinson to take emergency initiatives to put an end to the crimes committed against the Palestinian children, and renewed backing to all such initiatives.
