Jordan's Toujan al-Faisal for investigation next week
Jordan, Politics, 4/12/2002

Al-Faisal, the first Jordanian woman to be elected to the Jordanian parliament for the session of 1993- 1997, after having been arrested and released, is being brought before a security court for having spoken out against government corruption.

News reports in Amman expected the attorney general of the state security court Col. Raed Hijazi to submit the case of former member of Jordanian parliament Toujan al-Faisal to the state security court next week.

Jordanian judicial sources said that the attorney general completed investigations with Toujan Faisal this week and accused her of issuing press articles that violate "the sovereignty of the country and the reputation of its people."

He also accused her of "disseminating false information about Jordan to foreign circles and thereby defaming the country and also insulting the religion."
