An explosion in the petro-chemical factory in Kuwait

Production operations in the Kuwaiti al-Shueiba refinery whose oil production is 200,000 barrels daily, was not affected by the explosion that took place on Wednesday in a nearby petro- chemical factory, in the most recent incident that shakes the oil sector in Kuwait.

An official at the refinery told reporters that the refinery, situated to the south of Kuwait had applied security measures and evacuated the workers after the explosion but the production was not affected. The official added that the workers were permitted to return back to their work after the fire was controlled in the neighboring factory.

The director of al- Shueiba refinery Hussein Ismael also told reporters that the refinery is working at its full capacity.

Worthy mentioning that the Kuwaiti national oil company runs al-Shueiba refinery while the chemical petro industries companies is running Uria factory. Both companies are state- owned.

Worthy mentioning that Adel al-Subeih quit his post as a minister of oil in Kuwait after a tremendous explosion resulted in killing four workers and heavy losses in gas and oil production establishments in the northern part of the country.

Two persons were killed in al-Shueiba refinery in an explosion took place in 2000, followed by another explosion in al-Ahmadi refinery, the largest refinery in the country resulted in killing 6 persons.
