Azhar's Grand Imam condemns Israeli aggression on Palestinians
Egypt-Palestine, Religion, 4/11/2002

The Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Mohammed Sayed Tantawi said that all Egyptian Muslims and Christians enjoyed full freedom in practicing their religious rituals, and equally shared education and other rights.

During a meeting, held on Wednesday with a delegation of the Belgian parliament currently visiting Egypt, Sheikh Tantawi described as criminal the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian territories, including usurping land and destruction of houses.

The Palestinians are wronged and are defending themselves, said Tantawi during the meeting, which was attended by the Belgian ambassador and consul to Egypt.

He pointed out that the suicide attacks the Palestinians were carrying out against the occupation were considered martyrdom and Jihad operations for the liberation of the land.
