Jordan warns against organizing demonstration, sit ins
Jordan, Politics, 4/11/2002
The Jordanian minister of the Interior Qaftan al-Majali has warned against the consequences of organizing demonstrations and sits in or festivals without prior licensing.
Statements issued on Wednesday by the Jordanian daily "al-Youm" said that there are illegal calls to organize a demonstration next Friday in al-Rabeyah area near the Israeli embassy in Amman.
He explained that these calls are unlicensed and illegal and will not be permitted regardless to reasons and justifications. He indicated that persons calling for these demonstrations and responsible for them will be fully responsible for the inflected results of damaging private and public properties.
He added that such calls do not serve the interests of the homeland, nor the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, adding that coordination and dialogue between the government and activities of the civil society is based on what may serve the march of democracy and the freedom of expression, hinting that Jordan's stability and strengthening its national unity are red lines that can not be surpassed.
