Egypt committed to paying its share in Al Aqsa Intifada funds
Egypt-Palestine, Economics, 4/10/2002
Egyptian Finance Minister Hassanein Medhat reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to paying its share in A1 Aqsa and Intifada funds set up by the Amman Arab Summit to support the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli occupation forces.
During the news conference yesterday, he put Egypt's share in the two funds at around $ 63 million.
"Upon directives from President Hosni Mubarak, Egypt will send several shipments of medicine and foodstuffs to the Palestinian lands via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the minister added.
The UN Development Program director said yesterday that the international body approved urgent reliefs to the Palestinian people worth $ 1.5 million.
The aid aimed at helping the Palestinian people meet their medical requirements and rebuild the infrastructure.
The UN official expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in the occupied lands.
"We hope such an aid would help alleviate the Palestinian people's suffering", he said.
