Arab permanent committee on meteorology discuss related issues in session meetings

The 18th meetings of the Arab permanent committee for meteorology was held at the Damascus Arab Center for the study of Arid Zones and Dry area ACSAD on April 1st through 7th. The meeting was attended by the Saudi prince Turkey Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, the President of meteorology and environment protection in Saudi Arabia, the representative of the World Meteorology Organization WMO Muhammad al-Fateh Hassan.

Arab sides which took part in the works of the session were the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, ALECSO; ACSAD, the Arab Academy for the sciences, technology and sea transport, the Arab commission for civil aviation, Arabization co-ordination office, the GCC, OAPEC; the regional office of the international organization civil aviation; UNESCO's regional office; the African center for the application of Meteorology for Development ACMAD; WMO and the Arab Satellite establishment.

The speech of the Arab League AL assistant secretary general for economic affairs Abdul Rahman al-Sheibani, Meteorology expert at the AL general secretariat Ashraf Nour, indicated the notable success of the Arab meteorology utilities in coping the tremendous progress in the are of telecommunications at the world level. He indicated that cooperation between the committee and Arab, regional and international organizations concerned has become a tradition adopted by the committee in all regional and international circles to be a symbol for the remarkable relations among various international organizations and commissions to consolidate this co-operation. he also indicated the key issues and great tasks assigned by the committee especially following up the implementation of the " sand and soil storms" in the Arab states and practical steps to prepare the Climatic Atlas of the Arab states as well as strengthening the use of the Arabic language in the area of Meteorology.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the 18th meeting of the permanent Arab committee for Metrology. prince Turkey said that Meteorology utilities in the Arab states are facing large responsibilities and challenges which makes it imperative to improve its services so as to be able to cope with the increasing needs to improve all developmental sectors. He urged the need to maintain closer co-operation among Meteorology departments in the Arab states through the channeled activities of the permanent Arab committee for Meteorology and its sub committees.

He said the recommendations already issued by the permanent Arab committee for Meteorology in its previous session are but a minaret and an example to be followed by other international sides concerned especially in the area of maintaining precise weather forecast and the climatic effects on environmental, economic and social aspects.

He stressed that the general presidium for Meteorology and environment protection will effectively contribute to the activities of the permanent committee and its branch committees.

He added that the general presidium for Metrology and environment protection has established the regional Center for early warning and drought monitoring in line with the recommendations adopted by the branch committee on climatic changes.

The center's services concentrate on extreme climatic phenomenon, environment warning, and monitoring drought and its consequences on social, economic and environmental aspect The meeting, which is annually held,once, in one Arab state, was attended by the representatives of the World Meteorology Organization Muhammad al-Fateh Hassan, representatives for centers concerned with Meteorology, including the Arab Organization for Agricultural development, ACSAD, the Arab organization for civil Aviation affairs.
