Sudan: no tripartite summit with Egypt, Kenya
Sudan, Politics, 4/10/2002
The Sudanese government denied any arrangements to convene a tripartite arrangements between the Presidents of Sudan, Egypt and Kenya next week in Nairobi in order to co-ordinate between the two peace initiatives on Sudan.
The Sudanese government also ruled out President al-Bashir to meet with John Garang, the leader of the Southern Sudan rebellions, on the sideline of the meetings of heads of states of the COMESA economic organization due to be held in Nairobi next week.
The advisor for President al-Bashir for peace affairs Ghazi Salah Eddine al-Atabani said there are no such arrangements for such a summit and that the government did not receive an invitation to this effect. He indicated that certain circles in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi will try to bring back together President al-Bashir and Garang under the auspices of the Kenyan President Daniel Arab Moi during the said summit next week.
Earlier press reports in Khartoum talked about underway arrangements carried out in secret on a coming meeting to be held next week under the auspices of the state of Kenya between President al-Bashir and Garang. The reports said that President al-Bashir will leave for Nairobi to take part in the meetings of the COMESA economic summit organization and that President Mubarak of Egypt and Garang will be there.
