Bahrain, Politics, 4/10/2002

The King of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al- Khaleifa on Tuesday said that the democratic march will continue in the Kingdom despite of the attack at the American embassy last Friday during which a demonstration of protest against the fierce Israeli attacks against the Palestinians resulted in killing one person.

The King added that there is no recession or set back from the march of comprehensive reforms, foremost being " our democratic life provided by the constitution." He added what happened around the American embassy by some people was a violation to our common tradition, religiously and nationally."

He continued that one might think that these slogans and behaviors will constitute a threat to our democratic march, but this we will not permit. We are determined to protect the democratic march."

Worthy mentioning that last Friday, thousands of Bahraini people demonstrated condemning Israel and the US. The demonstrators denounced Israel and the US and a group of them attacked the embassy by benzin bombs and stones. One person was killed in clashes with the police who threw tear bombs and bullet bombs to disperse the demonstrators away from the embassy.

King Hamad called on the Bahraini people to help the Palestinians in the areas of social and health services. He also said that the municipality and parliamentary elections that are due in May and October this year will be carried out in due time.
